Erik Fisher

Paul Fisher Soccer Star, Next Football Star.

I believe Paul Fisher plays soccer because ,his brother was involved in it first (like the saying monkey see monkey do). Erik used to be the soccer star until Paul took his titled. Maybe that is why Erik stopped soccer and moved on to football. In the story Paul doesn't seem to like his brother, claiming Erik gets more attention than him. However maybe Paul will get involved with Football to get attention like his brother.

Mike Costello's death

The moment after Mike had died, Erik and his friend Arthur had come home after practice depressed and sad. As the stood in front of Ms. Fisher, they said, "Mike Costello is dead, mom. He got killed at practice today." Mom stood in the garage with disbelief, frozen, with no words at all. Erik and Arthur (with Erik mainly talking) told mom everything. He talked about how Mike was struck by lightning, the left side of his hair was burned off, and while the coaches just crowed (?) him, Mr. Fisher called 911. They tried everything from CPR to jump start. Before you knew it, he was dead. Instantly, mom called Mr. Fisher, while Erik and Arthur went on the patio. Paul looked at Erik and Arthur, skeptical; he could not believe his eyes. Paul saw Erik and Arthur laughing! He could her Erik saying, "Did you see his hair? Did you see the side of his head? He got mohawked, man!" In the beginning, Erik and Arthur looked saddened by Mike's death, but all of that was a lie; they were laughing, celebrating his untimely end. Later in the story, Paul had thought, I know why Erik and Arthur were celebrating, they were the two people who could benefit from Mike's death. This shows Erik is selfish, and is willing to do anything to get to the top, and no one will get in his way, or stop him from what he wants to achieve.

The Funeral: Sensory Imagery

In the Fisher’s car it was quiet, so quiet, that you were able to hear a pin drop. They were driving to Mike Costello’s public funeral, where all Mike’s friends were invited too. Once Erik opened the car door and shot out as fast as a blink. The second they arrived to the funeral Erik went straight the parking lots, where all friends (including Tina, Paige, and Arthur) were hanging around. You can tell why Erik was invited to the public funeral, and not the private funeral. Erik wasn’t here to comfort the Costello; he wasn’t really friends with Mike. Erik was at the funeral to boost his popularity, throughout the whole funeral he stayed with his friends. Once the funeral was over and the priest left, Erik was anxious to go.

Christina and other students: What does Erik's behavior in the part you descibed above say about his character? A key reading skill is making inferences: thinking on your own, and understanding what information the author is showing you. Try to make an inference from what is written above. Karma

.Erik: Hey, check it out. It's Mohawk Man's brother
Arthur: I didn't know Mohawk Man had a brother
Erik: Yeah you butt-head. The shoes! He was trying to take Mohawk Man's shoes! Its the hair, that fooled you.
Arthur: No resemblance. None at all.
Erik: I wonder if he got his money back for the shoes
Arthur: Yeah. Hey theres nothing wrong with those shoes.

A couple of days after Erik and Arthur, made fun of Joey, karma was just around the corner. Erik became the laughing stock of the city when, Lake Windsors's football team was up against Cypress Bay. Antoine Thomas was hold the ball for Erik. Erik was getting ready to kick when all of a sudden, Antoine moved the ball away. Erik kicked the air, and he landed on the ground. Thats what I call, KARMA

How Erik's Environment May Affect Him and His Choices
Erik's friends all encourage him to do dastardly deeds, and in the novel, when Luis came over to Erik and Arthur, the duo were being bullies. Luis was the victim, and Erik's friends were the bystanders. The bystanders were adding to the problem, instead of being part of the solution. No one that Erik hangs out with, even attempts to push him to behave himself. His friends don't really care whats best for him, and only want to see a "show". Erik also manipulates some of his friends, like his old pal Castor, and Arthur, to do whatever he pleases.
